ADHD Remedy
Many parents and individuals wish to avoid taking prescription medication to treat ADHD. Some experts assert that processed sugars and other carbs effect how active a child is. Studies have been inconclusive whether or not one of the causes of ADHD is refined sugars, but that doesn’t mean that dietary interventions aren’t in order. Maintaining even glycemic levels in your blood is a good health practice that may very well improve symptoms of ADHD. A diet specifically developed as an ADHD remedy is the Feingold Diet, which calls for the elimination of foods like artificial colors and preservatives that are suspected of contributing to ADHD behaviors.
The Feingold diet has substantial anecdotal evidence to support the claims of better focused and lower key behavior in children. As an allergist Dr. Feingold uses the same elimination diets that are one of the tools used to reduce allergy symptoms. Another successful methodology is called NAET which treats the causes of allergies, asthma, and other disorders through acupuncture and acupressure. This treatment when properly administered can treat the hyperactivity and bring ADHD under control.
Another successful non invasive treatment is to increase the amount of time spent outside in nature. Activities like hiking, backpacking, camping, rock climbing, biking, gardening and field sports are all excellent ways to reduce the hyperactivity associated with ADHD. If it is impossible to spend more time in the outdoors then even viewing photos or videos of nature are a good ADHD remedy. Other treatments that have been studied are Interactive Metronome training and Emotional Freedom Technique(EFT). Interactive metronome training supposes that motor planning and timing are root causes of ADHD. By keeping time to the cadence of a metronome a child will be better able to focus. EFT is used as an ADHD remedy by a wide variety of alternative practicioners for conditions as diverse as depression, PTSD, and others. It involves rhythmically tapping particular nerve centers on the face and body while focusing intent on the issue. Studies done on both of these remedies showed significant improvement in motor control and attention span. Another similar practice uses binaural sounds to reduce stress levels and calm the patient. Some osteopaths and chiropractors advocate cranial sacral and chiropractic adjustment to help with attention deficit.
There are many things one can do the reduce or treat ADHD. These range from diet and exercise to spending time in nature to more alternative treatments like EFT and NAET. Before deciding to enter into pharmaceutical therapy these alternatives should be considered, particularly dietary choices that are healthy and outdoor exercise activities. This is a good start for a ADHD remedy.
