I’ve been looking all around for a natural cure for ADHD, as a holistic wellness practitioner I’m only allowed to educate the public and my clients about the alternative treatment for adhd that I know of. Every time I learn some thing new about ADHD I would tell my clients about it and teach my nephew how to apply it.

ADHD herbal remedies as I heard have been effective for some cases. Of course diet has a lot to do with ADHD treatment. In some studies most of ADHD signs disappeared when children were not allowed to eat packaged foods; including cereals, milk, snacks, candy, fruit juices. Instead they were given a natural diet that included: Fish, lots of vegetables, fresh fruits, and were supplemented with fish oil and a multivitamin daily.

One day while searching online I stumbled open a report claiming to cure ADHD, I scroll down and to my surprise the report was for real and it was done by Dr. Scott Saunders, M.D, it is the first time ever I’ve seen a medical doctor claiming to cure ADHD/ADD, so I kept reading and this is what I found out about Dr Saunders:

Dr. Saunders has been in practice for 15 years, he has met hundreds open hundreds of families and patients who were forced to deal with the terrible effects of ADHD and ADD. He was not happy with the effectiveness of the drugs he was prescribing to his patients; children and adults. Especially when he realized that these drugs had no long term benefit at all.

Since Dr Saunders is a Natural Health Advocate and Medication Reduction Specialist, he started researching for a natural ADHD remedy and this is what he came up with:

Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD) is not a disease; it is actually what they in the medical field call a “spectrum disorder.” This means the symptoms and the causes of ADD/ADHD range wildly from child to child. While some children diagnosed with ADD/ADHD their only issue is not being able to pay attention, others bounce off the walls and suffer from mad hyperactivity. But for others it is caused primarily by inherited genetic factors. While to other kids it’s caused by diet, hormonal imbalances or even allergies.

ADHD Without Medication

The question about getting rid of ADHD without medication has been debated by many naturopaths and holistic practitioners. The fact that ADHD medication did not provide ADHD sufferers with a clear path to freedom from ADHD disorder has let the door open to seek ADHD natural remedies.

Before answering the question, we should first define the word disorder, since that is what ADHD is according to The American Psychiatric Association:

In medical terms, disorder means that “there is a problem or a condition within the body that is not in the normal range of function.”

In other words, there is a deficiency somewhere in the body of something either due to a lack of nutrients of any kind, or excess output of substances that overburden the body and causes the disorder. The American Psychiatric Association categorized ADHD as a mental disorder, because they think the problem is associated with deficits in the brain.

Now, if we think there is deficiency in the brain then we should supplement the brain with the nutrients we think the brain uses and needs to function properly.

According to Patrick Halford, founder of the Institute for Optimum Health, many children with ADHD have known symptoms of essential fatty acid deficiency, such as excessive thirst, dry skin, eczema, and asthma. Research at Oxford University has proven the value of Essential Fatty Acids in treating ADHD without medication; in a double blind trial involving forty one children aged eight to twelve years with ADHD symptoms and specific learning difficulties. Those children receiving extra essential fats in supplements were both behaving and learning better within twelve weeks.

Dr. Elson M. Haas, a medical doctor who practices holistic medicine thinks that deficiencies for ADHD children are in minerals, such as potassium, zinc, magnesium, manganese, as well as some of the B vitamins.

A study of 265 hyperactive children found that more than three-quarters displayed abnormal glucose tolerance. Glucose is the main fuel for the brain and body, and blood glucose levels fluctuate wildly all day on rollercoaster ride of refined carbohydrates like: cereal, bagels, doughnuts, cookies, stimulants caffeine in soda, sweets like candy, candy bars, jelly beans, chocolate, fizzy drinks, bottled juices, and little or no fiber to slow the glucose absorption, it is not surprising that levels of activity, concentration, focus, and behavior will also fluctuate wildly, as is seen in children with ADHD. Reducing or eliminating the sugar daily assault on the body has been found to have disciplinary actions in young offender.

ADHD Diet For Children

In this post I am going to talk about diet for ADHD kids. As a holistic nutrition consultant I always try to find the best available natural alternative for my clients. Finding the best ADHD diet for children was as difficult as I imagined. Because my nephew who lives with me and had all the symptoms of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, made it somehow a little bit easier, since I could watch his behavior worsen or improve from day to day, depending on what he has eaten or drunk that day or the day before.

Today I am going to tell you about how important it is to supplement an ADHD diet for children with essential fatty acids.

According to P. Halford, founder of the Institute for Optimum Health, and who has tried to develop an ADHD nutrition program and ADD vitamin program and a diet for ADHD kids; many children with ADHD have known symptoms of essential fatty acid deficiency, such as excessive thirst, dry skin, eczema, and asthma.

Research at Oxford University has demonstrated the value of Essential Fatty Acids in treating ADHD without medication; in a double blind trial involving forty one children aged eight to twelve years with ADHD symptoms and specific learning difficulties. Those children receiving extra essential fats in supplements were both behaving and learning better within twelve weeks.

Following this study I added EFA to my diet for ADHD kids, and the results for my nephew were absolutely astonishing, the kid was never able to sit still, either watching TV, eating, standing, or doing homework, he was unable to stop moving his hands and his legs, after eight weeks he was able to sit still, and stand still.

However essential fatty acids was not the only thing I did, since the goal was to find the best diet for ADHD kids, so EFA was just the beginning of a long journey that was four years in the making.
